I was pointed at 99 designs a little while ago and wasn't too sure about it. The idea is that you put up a brief for some graphic design you want doing (be it logo, leaflet, web page etc.) and offer a cash prize. Then designers submit their work for you to rate and decide on - the winner gets the prize.

It's a nice concept (and one that has worked well in the past for code development - I myself have got some work in this way) but I wasn't too sure it could work for graphics. The reasons I wasn't sure I am not actually too clear on - the place just didnt feel right.

However recently one of my friends had a logo made and gave some good (or at least ok) feedback on the site. It seemed to work. So, finding myself in need of a new logo, I have given it a try and been pleasantly surprised how well the site functions.

Here is my contest - it currently has 29 very varied designs (and I expect more tomorrow) which I can choose from. For the most part designers have read and understood the brief I made (even though I left it intentionally vague) and have taken feedback really well (making changes often in just a few minutes!). I'm fairly confident that in just over 2 days time I will be the proud owner of a new logo! All for the meager price of $150 and $39 listing fee. Bargain!

That said it *could* all go tits up so lets not count chickens quite yet :D I'll post back with my thoughts on Wednesday when it's all over!

Also interesting me today was that I noticed Avon Blake got "hacked" - I had wondered why there were so few posts there recently. Although from his prior record of in-your-face posting it could be another bit of misdirection. I must remember to bookmark his progress at some point :D
