I was hungover yesterday - which is always a good time for me to come up with shit.

The thinking is this: as a programmer I know we get a really bad deal compared to "designers". Take the web as an example. All these fancy as hell design gurus create some great layouts, designs etc. for people to ogle at. They get a LOT of appreciation at what they do.

Then you get programmers that create the systems to run it on - guys with no graphic design talent but with the ability to "make things work". On any single website the bit a user sees would be down to the designer - the thing that makes it work is down to the programmer.. guess who gets all the credit??

I'm not saying that the appreciation designers get is wrong: far from it, I can appreciate a nice web page like the rest of the world. I just think that pure programmers get a bad deal! It takes a modicum of knowledge and a bit of geekery to see the exciting programming & code aspects in a web site.

So with this in mind I tried to think of ways to promote programmers as "cool guys" who make it all work for you.... but screw me if I can think of one. I guess we are consigned to the realms of geekery and obscurity.

Long live the programmer :(
